Doctors in Shanghai, China, have successfully performed surgery to remove the third arm of a 2-month-old boy.
Baby Jie-Jie was born on April 1 in Anhui Province, China. At birth, he had one right arm and two left arms, both of which were non-functional. Tests indicated that the left arm closest to his chest was underdeveloped, leading doctors to decide to remove this arm.
Prior to the surgery, doctors expressed concern for the baby’s health, but the three-hour operation was unexpectedly successful. Concerns about potential impacts on the nervous system did not materialize. However, Jie-Jie’s parents remain apprehensive about his future development, as Jie-Jie has only one kidney since birth.
