The World Cyber Games (WCG) competition has officially kicked off this year, promoting the event across 30 universities in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, and Can Tho. At the major entertainment centers of these cities, gaming enthusiasts can learn about the competition rules and proactively download and try out the games.
This marks the third year that WCG has been held in Vietnam, with the theme “Beyond the Game.” The organizers have received over 10,000 registration forms from students. The preliminary and qualifying rounds will take place from July 1 to July 31 in all four cities, providing an opportunity for all “digital racers” to participate.
The national finals are scheduled for early August at the Phan Dinh Phung Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, featuring three traditional game categories: FIFA 2006, StarCraft, and WarCraft 3. The top three players in each category will qualify for the global finals, which will be held in Monza, Italy, from October 18 to October 22.
Monza has prepared the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, a venue that has previously hosted the Italian Grand Prix for Formula 1 racing, to accommodate nearly 700 WCG gamers from 70 countries competing. During their time at the event, players will enjoy cultural and entertainment programs from around the world.
