On June 7, a group of healthcare and medical companies, along with high-tech corporations, established the Continua Health Alliance. This initiative aims to create a unified system for medical products and services, focusing on human healthcare through network connectivity.
This alliance will empower patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers to take a more proactive approach in addressing current medical issues.
The founding members of this alliance include BodyMedia, Cisco Systems, GE Healthcare, IBM, Intel Corporation, Kaiser Permanente, Medtronic, Motorola, Nonin, Omron Healthcare, Panasonic, Partners HealthCare, Polar Electro, Royal Philips Electronics, RMD Networks, Samsung Electronics, Sharp, The Tunstall Group, Welch Allyn, and Zensys.
Continua Health Alliance’s efforts will focus on three main areas: managing chronic conditions, health monitoring, and addressing the healthcare needs of the elderly through proactive health management. Medical devices and healthcare services will be network-ready, allowing individuals with diabetes or other chronic conditions to share information about their glucose levels and other essential data with physicians online.
People will be able to care for their parents remotely, actively assisting them in maintaining safe healthcare practices at home. Individuals on diets or engaging in exercise routines will also be able to share unlimited data regarding their weight and workouts with fitness consultants via the Internet.
The alliance plans to introduce solutions for the healthcare industry within the next 18 months.
