Before releasing the fish fry, Mr. Ấn thoroughly cleaned the rafts with lime powder and soaked them underwater for several days. Previously, he had raised red tilapia fry in a nylon mesh net and fed them with industrial fish feed that is high in protein. Over a month after raising them, he removed the nylon mesh net and transferred the grown red tilapia into the rafts. Mr. Ấn shared, “Red tilapia are very easy to raise, have low disease rates, and eat a variety of foods such as rice bran, feed, water spinach, crabs, and snails… The care process is also straightforward, with low mortality rates; if the fish are well-fed, they grow very quickly!”.
Indeed, after more than two months in the rafts, the red tilapia grew to an average weight of 200g each. Mr. Ấn continued to introduce 80kg of common tilapia fry and 20kg of golden catfish fry into the two rafts for mixed breeding. The primary feed for Mr. Ấn’s mixed fish stock consists of pellet feed and various kinds of small fish, crabs, golden apple snails, and shrimp. Each day, he feeds the fish around 30kg of feed and increases the amount as the fish grow. Every week to a month and a half, he mixes Tetra medication and Vitamin C into the feed to prevent intestinal diseases, boost resistance, and stimulate rapid growth in the fish stock…
Thanks to careful management, the mixed fish stock in the two rafts placed in the Đồng Tiến Canal behind his house has gained weight quickly with low mortality rates. Now, after more than six months of breeding, Mr. Ấn has harvested over 1.3 tons of red tilapia, more than 200kg of common tilapia, and over 50kg of marketable golden catfish, resulting in a total income of nearly 25 million VND. After deducting all investment costs and care expenses, Mr. Nguyễn Hoàng Ấn has made a profit of over 13 million VND! He is now continuing to expand his carp farming model and is also guiding local farmers interested in fish farming.
