A “spam expert” has been fined $1 million for sending out 25 million spam emails each day, but recently made the surprising announcement of launching a service to help other companies combat spam.
According to SophosLabs, Microsoft has achieved a significant legal victory in a Texas court by winning a lawsuit against a young man named Ryan Pitylak, who was sending out 25 million spam emails daily.
Ryan Pitylak, a 24-year-old resident of Austin, has been fined at least $1 million under anti-spam laws and ordered to sell his $430,000 home, luxury car, and various other assets to pay the fines and court costs.
Pitylak’s spam emails typically consisted of content related to low-interest mortgage loans and debt counseling, making him one of the top four spammers in the world.
In his blog, Pitylak stated that due to his experience in sending spam, he will now offer services to internet companies seeking to block spam. The blog expressed, “I am pleased to announce that I am now a member of the anti-spam community.”
