10 weeks earlier than expected. Experts indicate that such cases of identical quadruplets are extremely rare, with fewer than 100 occurrences worldwide.
Shruthi Vivekanandan, residing in the city of Chennai in southern India, naturally gave birth to four daughters named Aditi, Aakriti, Akshathi, and Aapthi on April 25.
The babies weighed between 0.81 and 0.99 kg, according to Dr. Meena Thiagarajan, a neonatal specialist at Apollo Hospital, where the births took place.
Despite being born prematurely at 29 weeks and 3 days, all the babies are currently healthy and gaining weight rapidly, stated the hospital’s medical services director.
Identical quadruplets are a very rare occurrence in nature. However, Vivekanandan’s case is even rarer—according to doctors, all four children shared the same placental blood vessels. “In this case, the mother risks losing all four children simultaneously if any complications arise.”
