Experts Confirm that Bubble Tea Poses a Risk of Food Poisoning Due to Various Reasons.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duy Thinh (Former lecturer at the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology), bubble tea is a familiar beverage that, when made correctly, should not cause food poisoning for consumers. However, if the ingredients are not sourced properly, or if the preparation and storage processes are not followed, the risk of food poisoning is very high.
What Causes Bubble Tea to Pose a Risk of Food Poisoning?
The issue with bubble tea is whether the source of ingredients is reliable.
“The concern with bubble tea is whether the source of ingredients is reliable, has clear origin, and whether the preparation method is correct. If these conditions are not met, this beverage certainly has a high potential to cause food poisoning,” affirmed Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duy Thinh.
Typically, any food that ensures safety must control flavoring agents and additives. Any flavoring agents and additives that are permitted for use must also meet the required limits and usage recommendations. If the bubble tea you consume lacks control over these elements, the risk of food poisoning is hard to avoid.
“Using flavorings and food colorings above permissible limits can lead to food poisoning,” confirmed Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duy Thinh.
In addition to the risk of food poisoning, bubble tea has long been branded as an unhealthy beverage. This is due to its high content of sugar and milk. Regular consumption of any food high in sugar and milk is generally not good for health. Consuming foods rich in sugar and milk can lead to weight gain, obesity, and excessive calcium which could result in kidney stones…
Tips for Drinking Bubble Tea to Avoid Health Risks
You should reduce the amount of sugar each time you drink bubble tea.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duy Thinh, to avoid unwanted consequences when drinking bubble tea, individuals should pay attention to the following:
1. Drink Bubble Tea from Reputable Stores
Currently, bubble tea is widely available due to increased consumer demand. From branded stores to street corners, markets, and mobile vendors, sellers cater to all age groups, particularly appealing to young people and students. Parents and schools should advise their children to consume bubble tea from reputable stores. Here, you will reduce the risk of food poisoning due to the better hygiene and safety standards in sourcing and preparation. You can also carefully observe the packaging process to assess the hygiene standards of the store you are purchasing from.
2. Avoid Bubble Tea with Excessive Sugar and Milk
Typically, when ordering bubble tea, sellers at reputable stores allow you to choose the percentage of sugar for each cup. You should gradually reduce the sugar content, possibly starting with 70%, then 50%, and finally 30%. This way, you can still enjoy sweet bubble tea without worrying too much about excessive sugar intake.
3. Don’t Drink Bubble Tea Too Frequently
Many individuals are so passionate about bubble tea that they consume it daily, sometimes even multiple cups in one day. This is not good for health, even if you have reduced the sugar content when ordering. Excessive consumption of bubble tea can lead to a loss of natural collagen, abdominal fat, and uncontrollable weight gain. Ideally, limit yourself to 1-2 cups a week to satisfy your cravings.
