Yahoo has officially launched a customized version of Internet Explorer 7 Beta tailored to its specifications.
Accordingly, IE 7 Beta 2 has been configured to set Yahoo.com as the default homepage, which opens in the first tab every time the browser starts. Meanwhile, Yahoo Mail is automatically loaded in the second tab. Yahoo’s web search engine has also become the default search tool in IE 7 Beta 2.
Yahoo’s ability to customize IE 7 Beta 2 is attributed to its use of the Internet Explorer Administration Kit from Microsoft, allowing the browser to be tailored in its own unique way.
“However, users can still change these settings to align with the standard version of the Microsoft browser,” the information on the IEBlog confirms.
Last month, antitrust regulators conducted an investigation into Microsoft’s Windows Vista, seemingly satisfied with the company’s plans for the new operating system version, including plans to make MSN Search the default search engine in IE 7.
In a report submitted to regulatory authorities, the U.S. Department of Justice asserted that Microsoft has complied with regulations respecting users, allowing them to easily choose and change their default search tools.
However, this has sparked a search engine rivalry between Yahoo-Microsoft and Google-Firefox.
Last month, Google announced that Microsoft’s decision to set MSN Search as the default in IE 7 was an anti-competitive move. Meanwhile, Google is establishing a strong partnership with Firefox, becoming the default search engine in that browser.
