The name says it all. This place is the “Glass Beach” in California, USA.
Glass Beach is made up of three smaller beaches located in Northern California, and on this beach are millions of colorful, translucent stones of various shapes and sizes.

However, few people know that this glass beach was once made up of… three local dumping sites in the early 20th century. In 1906, local residents dumped their trash on the first beach, and when it became uncontrollable, they began to burn it.

By 1943, they began dumping trash on the second beach nearby. The third beach also opened as a dumping site until local authorities decided to clear all the trash along this coastline.
Over time, the glass fragments were affected by chemicals and physical impacts, transforming their shapes into dull-colored stones. Other pieces collided with each other or with the surrounding sand and stones, causing them to lose their sharp edges. Nonetheless, visitors still need to wear shoes, as many sharp glass pieces remain.

Over time, most of these stones have lost their sharpness. Therefore, visitors can comfortably stroll along the beach without worrying about injuries. However, to ensure absolute safety, visitors should wear shoes instead of going barefoot. (Photo: Internet)
If you plan to collect glass stones as souvenirs, forget about it, because California park laws prohibit taking anything from the beach.
One important note when visiting this beach is that you are not allowed to take these glass pieces home.
