Do you enjoy going to the beach in summer to soak up the sun and stroll along the white sandy shores? Do you also love watching the snow fall in winter? This peculiar beach will meet both of those desires.
An image of a beach, with snow on one side, the sea on the other, and a stretch of golden sand in the middle.
When we think of the beach, we usually imagine golden sands, bright sunshine, and the rhythmic waves lapping at the shore. All of this creates a picturesque scene that relaxes our minds. However, have you ever imagined walking on a beach where you witness the harmonious blend of the sea, sand, and snow?
Nature always has a way of surprising us. This surprise comes from the land of cherry blossoms.
Recently, a photograph taken by a Japanese photographer has gone viral on Instagram. The photo depicts a beach, with snow on one side, the sea on the other, and a stretch of golden sand in the middle, where a man is walking along the sand. The photographer shared the image with the caption: “Walking along the beach.”
This beautiful beach is part of the UNESCO Global Geopark San’in Kaigan and is located in western Japan, stretching from Hakuto Kaigan Beach to Kyogamisaki Cape east of Kyoto.
Additionally, the San’in Kaigan Geopark features numerous unique heritage sites and geological landscapes related to the geological development of Japan.
This geopark is also home to rare plant species such as Pseudolysimachion ornatum, Ciconia boyciana, and Ranunculus nipponicus. It was designated a global geopark in October 2010.

According to UNESCO, the park includes three cities, towns, and districts with a population of about 400,000 people. The area has experienced three major earthquakes, resulting in sites related to disasters, which are currently used for research on natural disasters. Additionally, the local hot springs have long been valued as health resorts for the community.
The special photograph taken by the photographer, showcasing the blend of sand, sea, and snow, has sparked endless discussions among netizens about this beach. Many believe the photo inspires travel and exploration of the world. Currently, the photo has garnered over 18,000 likes, along with thousands of shares and comments.
Some people were mesmerized by the surreal beauty of the beach, commenting: “A breathtaking beauty; nature always surprises us,” “This is a scene many dream of witnessing,” “This is one of the most beautiful and amazing images I have ever seen,” “It’s rare to see snow on the beach like this; places with snow usually have rocky beaches, not sandy ones like in the picture. Truly amazing.”
This beach is not the only snow-covered beach in Japan. However, the three types of terrain lined up next to each other create a truly spectacular sight. If you wish to explore similar beaches, here are some suggestions:
1. Jersey Shore, USA
People often engage in various activities along the beach.
Winter storms and harsh weather conditions often disrupt life at Jersey Shore. You might also spot surfers braving the icy waters of the Atlantic despite the cold and snowfall. Some people prefer walking, snowball fights, and sledding on the snow-covered beach.
2. Chatham Lighthouse Beach, USA
This beach is located in Massachusetts, USA. In winter, the beaches are covered with a shimmering layer of snow. It also features a famous historic lighthouse.
3. Chesterman Beach, Canada
A stunning sunset over the sea.
Chesterman Beach, located in the town of Tofino on Vancouver Island, is a popular surfing spot. Adventurers are undeterred by the Pacific waves during the winter months. So, when it snows, you can still see locals out enjoying the scenery.
