On June 18th, hackers successfully breached the French website of Microsoft and altered its homepage with various … drawings.
The attackers gained access to the server of the website http://experts.microsoft.fr, Microsoft confirmed yesterday.
Zone-H, a security website that regularly archives images of compromised websites, reported that the attack was carried out by Turkish hackers using the “TiTHacK” method.
The attackers successfully infiltrated the website’s operational server due to faulty configuration settings, Microsoft stated. “And Microsoft has taken the necessary steps to rectify this issue while preventing any similar attacks from occurring.”
After the successful breach, the attackers altered the French Microsoft website and left a message: “Hi Master (: Your System 0wned By Turkish Hackers! redLine ownz y0u! Special Thanx And Gretz RudeBoy |SacRedSeer| The_Bekir And All Turkish HacKers next target: microsoft.com date: 18/06/2006 @ 19:06 WE WERE HERE….” (Hello 🙁 Your system is now under the control of Turkish hackers! Cut your own salary! Special thanks and condolences to the lame boys! The next target of The_Bekir and all Turkish hackers is microsoft.com on June 18, 2006 @ 19:06 WE WERE HERE…)
Although website defacement attacks continue to occur, they are no longer regarded as a highly esteemed form of attack as they were in previous years. Nowadays, financial gain has become the primary motive for hackers.
Microsoft is currently working with law enforcement agencies to investigate and take necessary actions to punish the attackers, the company stated.
The compromised Microsoft website was down for most of yesterday. Microsoft reported that they are working to restore the site.
“We apologize to our customers for the downtime of our French website. Microsoft is committed to protecting its customers, and we are currently working with another web hosting provider to restore the site as soon as possible.”
