In winter, for red foxes in North America, finding food becomes extremely challenging. However, thanks to their keen sense of smell, ears that can detect very faint sounds, and particularly their precise calculation abilities, these foxes can still catch mice.
The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is the largest species in the fox genus and one of the most widely distributed members of the order Carnivora, found throughout the Northern Hemisphere, including most of North America, Europe, and Asia, as well as parts of North Africa. Their habitat range has increased alongside human expansion, as they were introduced to Australia, where they are considered a pest to native mammals and bird species. They are assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN. |
