On June 20, Opera officially launched a new version of its web browser, featuring numerous improvements over the previous version.
The Opera 9 browser has been in testing since April 2006, introducing a range of features designed to enhance web browsing efficiency, improve security, and provide greater control over the content users access.
Some new features in Opera 9 include the ability for users to restart the browser in the same state it was last used, as well as the capability to block ads on a per-website basis.
Content-related features include widgets—small web applications—designed to help users organize their personal settings within the browser, play games, or keep track of sports events.
A security toolbar has also been added to Opera 9. This addition is seen as a response from the developers to the rise of online scams and identity theft. The security toolbar aims to minimize the risk of users facing online phishing attacks and is equipped with technologies that enhance the capability and effectiveness of blocking pop-up ads.
Opera 9 also includes a thumbnail preview feature. With this feature, users can simply hover their mouse over a tab containing a webpage to view a thumbnail image of that page.
Notably, Opera 9 supports information sharing through BitTorrent technology. With this feature, users can now use Opera 9 to download files via BitTorrent file-sharing networks.
Opera 9 is available for free and is compatible with a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Users can download it from the website http://www.opera.com.
