American scientists have unveiled the world’s fastest silicon chip. This new chip can operate at speeds of up to 500 GHz, which is 100 times faster than a typical computer chip and 250 times faster than a mobile phone chip. To achieve this world record, researchers from IBM and the Georgia Institute of Technology cooled the chip to a temperature of approximately -233°C.
Experts believe that this new chip could enhance the speed of wireless networks and significantly reduce the manufacturing costs of mobile phones.
