According to Mr. Nguyen Bao Long, around 9 PM on June 20, a white bat flew into the 2-meter high parking basement of his house, which is located in front of a garden with large trees.
This bat looked just like any other bat, except for its entirely white fur and body, making it resemble an albino rat.
Upon discovering this unusual bat, Mr. Long captured it in a glass jar and covered it with a thin cloth by his window.
As he monitored the bat, he noticed it was growing weaker. He was very worried because he didn’t know what to feed it and wanted to find scientists for guidance on how to care for this strange bat.
However, later on, the bat managed to escape from the jar and flew away. Luckily, Mr. Long was able to take a few photos of this unusual white bat.
According to scientists from the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, this could be an albino bat (a genetic condition that reduces pigmentation) which is why it lacks the black color common to other bats.
Experts also noted that Vietnam has a considerable number of bats. Currently, Vietnam is home to 107 species, 31 genera, 7 families, and 2 suborders of bats. This list is still expanding, including species that have never been seen in Southeast Asia.
