While crossing a river, a wild elephant was unexpectedly bitten by a crocodile, which then attacked it right in the water.
This astonishing scene was captured by a 53-year-old guide named Emmanuel Sauti.
On that day, Emmanuel Sauti was driving from home to work after a short break. He and his friends had no idea they were about to witness a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle. As they drove along the Luangwa River, Emmanuel Sauti and his companions noticed chaos unfolding in the waters below.
“As the scene began to unfold, we were able to identify the culprits. An elephant and a crocodile,” Emmanuel Sauti said.
Perhaps the crocodile was too hungry, which is why it decided to attack the elephant.
Everyone was utterly amazed, filled with excitement at the battle between these two large animals.
This guide noted that typically, crocodiles tend to target smaller antelopes and fish for food. It is almost unheard of for a crocodile to attempt to attack an elephant.
Perhaps the crocodile was driven by desperation from hunger or had grand ambitions, leading it to decide to attack the elephant.
“In the end, the elephant escaped from the crocodile and crossed the river. What a relief! I must say, this was one of the most exciting moments of my guiding career. In fact, it was the first time I had seen an elephant fighting a crocodile,” Emmanuel Sauti added.
