“Illuminating the Realm of Knowledge” is the theme of a campaign aimed at spreading computer literacy and Internet access, which will be implemented by the Hanoi Youth Union during July and August 2006 as part of the “Volunteer Summer Youth” activities.

The campaign to promote computer literacy and Internet access has been implemented by the Hanoi Youth Union since the summer of 2004. However, after each session, many rural areas quickly fall back into a state of “digital illiteracy.” This issue is not due to the volunteers’ lack of knowledge but mainly because they do not know how to effectively organize a class and convey information properly.
Learning from past experiences, this year the Hanoi Youth Union has collaborated with Aprotrain-Aptech International Programmer Center to organize a training program for the volunteers. Leveraging their expertise in IT training, Aprotrain-Aptech has developed a training curriculum that includes two parts: general knowledge about computer science, Web 2.0, and Internet applications.
The program not only provides supplementary knowledge for the volunteers but also equips them with skills to effectively communicate and organize a class. Nearly 50 group leaders of volunteers participating in the computer literacy and Internet campaign for summer 2006 have been trained. These leaders will then relay this knowledge to 300 volunteers in their groups.
The goal of the “Illuminating the Realm of Knowledge” campaign is to disseminate computer and Internet knowledge to over 3,000 people of all ages, from elementary to high school students, youth, and local officials in 15 rural communes on the outskirts of Hanoi and some neighboring provinces.
To encourage participation, Aprotrain-Aptech International Programmer Center has announced that it will award 15 scholarships, each worth 300 USD, to outstanding volunteers who excel in promoting computer literacy this summer.
