A newly established security company has just introduced a software tool designed to effectively protect Internet Explorer from attacks.
Today, GreenBorder Technologies is set to launch a client security tool that allows users to place Internet Explorer within a “security box.” Named GreenBorder Pro, the product utilizes virtualization technology similar to what security researchers use. In this virtual environment, malware can execute but cannot affect the user’s system.
“We provide a safer environment for IE,” said Jim Fulton, Vice President of Product Marketing at GreenBorder. “You can access any website, even one filled with browser exploit tools and dangerous software, and GreenBorder will still isolate them from your system.”
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is a highly popular web browser, with up to 9 out of 10 users employing it. However, security experts are wary of this browser due to its numerous security vulnerabilities. IE has been a target for many attacks, prompting some users to switch to Firefox and Opera for safety reasons.
GreenBorder has identified an opportunity to make IE safer. The company’s security tool is designed to protect users from internet threats such as trojans and malware.
If users access a website laden with malware using GreenBorder’s tool, the malware will still execute but will not affect the user’s system. Any changes made by the malware will be completely erased when users utilize the “Clean and Reset GreenBorder” feature of the software.
However, GreenBorder is not a solution against all network attacks. The software only helps protect the system against malware such as keyloggers or trojans and cannot defend against attacks through exploit links commonly used today. These attacks employ “social engineering” techniques to trick users into visiting a website that downloads malware. Even with GreenBorder installed, users can still inadvertently install such malware.
Therefore, users must remain vigilant even when protected by GreenBorder.
The GreenBorder product also does not protect users from online phishing attacks. Nonetheless, it does safeguard against most real threats currently prevalent.
Users can visit the GreenBorder Technologies website for more information and to download the software.
