Anh Tuan and some newly bred gerbera daisies |
Mr. Tran Pham Anh Tuan (32 years old) from An Binh Valley, Ward 3, Da Lat City, has recently introduced 20 new strains of gerbera daisies that he has developed through research and breeding.
Mr. Tuan stated that he began researching and breeding flower varieties ten years ago. Three years ago, his breeding efforts started to yield results, with at least 3,000 new strains of gerbera daisies emerging from his successful pollination techniques. He utilized the genetic resources of long-standing gerbera plants in Da Lat, combined with the genetics of new, high-quality strains imported from the Netherlands, Taiwan, and Japan. This was achieved through a pollination process based on insect activity that he observed and applied.
Following this, Mr. Tuan allowed the seeds to germinate and grow, then planted them in soil, while also transferring samples into test tubes for genetic preservation. This process was continuously experimented and refined over many seasons to select the 20 superior and optimized strains.
