The English Setter dog named Bisbee was adopted by Jay and Ericka Johnson when he was still a puppy, following a charity auction three years ago.
The family named their new pet Bisbee, who grew up eating and living normally. However, as he matured, his tongue became unusually long.
“We discovered that Bisbee had a longer tongue than usual, so we took pictures of him and sent them to our relatives. Everyone said it was clear that he had the longest tongue in the world and advised us to contact the Guinness World Records,” shared owner Ericka Johnson.
Eventually, they followed the advice, and to their surprise, Bisbee’s tongue was measured at 9.49 cm long beyond his muzzle. With a tongue longer than a popsicle, Bisbee was recognized as the world’s longest tongue on a living dog.

Experts from the Guinness World Records explained that for this record, a dog’s tongue is measured from the tip of the muzzle. The dog must extend its tongue out of the muzzle as far as possible so that a veterinarian can measure from the tip of the tongue to the point where the tongue is visible from the muzzle.
The dog with the longest tongue ever recorded by Guinness was a dog named Brandy, whose tongue measured 18.58 cm. Brandy was from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA, but passed away in 2002.
