A research team from Songkla University in Thailand has recently developed a robot that can replace bomb disposal units in conflict areas along the country’s borders.
The team hopes that their invention will soon be used for bomb disposal in three southern provinces, where violence occurs frequently and intensely. “This robot can supplement bomb disposal units and can operate in the most dangerous locations,” said Dr. Pattara Aiyarak, the head of the research team.
With a research budget of 150,000 baht, Dr. Pattara’s robot is equipped with a camera that can help inspect dangerous locations from a distance of up to 500 meters. The robot can be remotely controlled; however, in some situations, it may cause signal interference.
Dr. Pattara mentioned that the border military is quite interested in this research due to its practical benefits and feasibility for use. The research team is currently continuing to improve the robot to make it more effective, with a more compact design and a camera capable of working in underwater environments.
