On July 5th, CNET News reported on a “tip” in Internet Explorer that many fear could be a security flaw, making users vulnerable to attacks from the Internet environment. However, Microsoft has denied this claim.
Try creating a shortcut for Notepad and naming it www.microsoft.com (right-click on Desktop – select New – Shortcut – type notepad in the Type the location of the item field – type www.microsoft.com in the Type a name for this shortcut field). Then, launch Internet Explorer, enter www.microsoft.com in the Address bar, and press Enter. Instantly, Notepad will open.
Microsoft claims this is a feature that allows users to quickly access what they need. However, many opinions suggest that the ability to trigger executable files by typing an address in the browser poses a security risk that hackers may exploit in the near future.
While waiting for official information from Microsoft, it is advisable to include the full prefix http:// before each web address for safety!
