Last Thursday (July 20), the villagers of Manna, India, witnessed a bizarre phenomenon like never before: a torrential rain of fish fell from the sky.
“At first, hardly anyone noticed, but then people started to discover muddy objects falling with the rain, flopping on the ground. The stronger the rain, the more these flopping creatures appeared,” said Abubaker, a shop owner in the village, in an interview with Hindustan Times.
Quickly, the villagers were pleasantly surprised to realize that these were tiny fish, flat as a pencil and still shimmering fresh. They resembled parala fish, a very common freshwater species in the rivers of India.
This was the first time that “fish rain” had occurred in a northern province of India; however, this phenomenon has been recorded in many other places around the world, including occurrences of frog rain and tomato rain.
Certainly, there is no invisible supernatural force “pulling the strings” here.
According to scientists, sometimes tornadoes or gigantic waterspouts “play” through an area, conveniently picking up various objects in their path and then dropping them in a distant land, creating these strange rains that leave people in awe.
