Who is the greatest physicist in history, Isaac Newton or Albert Einstein? Most people might say that both are equally great, but deep down, many have a preference for one over the other. So, who do they prefer?

Many may be drawn to Einstein, one of the most influential scientists of modern times. However, unexpectedly, the figure who had a significant impact on history was Newton. Newton elevated science to new heights with his unparalleled mathematical talent and extensive scientific achievements.
Compared to Newton, although Einstein developed the theory of relativity, he did not create a branch of mathematics or engage in political issues. Einstein acknowledged Newton as a genius standing on the shoulders of giants. Newton not only provided the tools to understand the laws of the universe through his invention of calculus, but he also oversaw a major currency reform while serving as a member of Parliament and as the director of the mint. While Einstein had competitors like Lorentz and Poincaré in the exploration of special relativity, he never stepped into the political arena.
Although Einstein’s theory of relativity has laid the groundwork for the development of nuclear energy and weapons, its impact has faced many opposing viewpoints. Newton’s calculus and laws of gravitation enabled the calculation of planetary motion, paving the way for ocean navigation and driving exploration during the Age of Discovery.
According to a 1995 survey by the Royal Society, Newton was regarded as a figure with significant contributions to science and humanity. In the scientific community, 86.2% supported Newton’s scientific contributions, and 60.9% believed he had a greater impact on humanity. On the other hand, Einstein had to develop his own theories based on the foundation laid by Newton.
