The 20-year-old Dalton Meyer from Davenport shared that his passion for speed clapping began in elementary school after watching a YouTube video of Kent French, who was previously dubbed the fastest clapper in the world.
“It came to me naturally, like I didn’t even need to practice,” Meyer told the Quad-City Times.
The young man explained that his attempt to set a world record utilized the wrist clapping technique developed by the previous Guinness World Record holder, Eli Bishop, who managed 1,103 claps in one minute. Wrist clapping involves using the wrist and fingers of one hand to clap against the palm of the other hand.
Meyer collaborated with Charm Media Group in Geneseo to ensure that his official Guinness World Record attempt was accurately recorded in real-time with slow-motion footage. The performance was also recorded with appropriate sound to ensure that each clap (19 claps in one second) could be counted precisely by Guinness World Records officials.
