An American named Micka Burkhart caught a 1.5-meter-long blue catfish in the Cumberland River, Tennessee, on September 25th.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reported that the fish, weighing 55 kg, became the largest catfish ever caught in the state, earning it the nickname “monster,” according to Newsweek.
After measuring its length and weight, Burkhart released the fish back into the wild.
“The fish was so big that I couldn’t lift it completely off the ground,” Burkhart said.
The blue catfish is the largest catfish species in the United States, inhabiting areas of the Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio rivers, and the Rio Grande basin. Blue catfish prey on a variety of organisms, including worms, clams, insects, frogs, crustaceans, and smaller fish.
The largest blue catfish ever caught in the U.S. weighed 65 kg. Due to their massive size, catfishing has become a popular sport in America.
