There is a village in India unlike any other in the world, where every family has at least one pair of twins. This mysterious location has astonished scientists, and local authorities are eager for further studies to explain this phenomenon.
Kodinhi is a village in Kerala, India, with a unique characteristic: the rate of twin births here is higher than anywhere else. Statistics show that every family in this village has at least one pair of twins, whether from this age group or another. With a population of 2,000, the village boasts around 400 pairs of twins.
Moreover, it’s important to note that compared to other continents, Asia generally has a lower twin birth rate. Therefore, the twin birth rate in Kodinhi is considered an unusual phenomenon. Visitors to the village are often surprised to see so many people who look alike.

Thus, it is understandable that Kodinhi holds the record for having the most pairs of twins in the world. For this reason, Kodinhi is considered the most mysterious village in India.
The phenomenon began around the 1930s when the number of twin births in Kodinhi was significantly higher than normal. Since then, the number of twins has steadily increased. Several studies have been conducted to investigate the cause of this occurrence.

Various hypotheses have been proposed. Some believe it may be due to certain molecules in the water of the Kodinhi area. Others suggest that it could be linked to specific foods consumed by the villagers. Some researchers are investigating other factors such as genetics, molecules, and climate, but no conclusions have been reached yet. In terms of food, there is nothing particularly special; the villagers eat a normal diet consisting of local products like seafood and coconuts.

Indians often refer to Kodinhi as the “Twin City”, and even the India Times humorously dubbed it the “village of human photocopies.” While the health of the villagers does not seem to be unusual, local authorities still hope for new research to uncover why the number of twins is so high and what occurred around the 1930s that initiated this phenomenon.
