The Danuri probe (meaning “Moon enjoyment”), was launched from the United States using a Falcon 9 rocket developed by SpaceX, and is expected to reach lunar orbit by mid-December for a one-year data collection mission.
If successful, this launch will make South Korea the 7th country in the world and the 4th in Asia (after China, Japan, and India) to conduct lunar research activities from space.
This initiative is part of South Korea’s space program, which aims to land a probe on the Moon by 2030 while joining a group of 9 countries working on the Artemis project to return to the Moon in 2024.
