According to the institute, the fossilized footprints, which span an area of over 9,000 square meters, were found in Xuanhua District, Zhangjiakou City. The layer of rock containing these dinosaur footprints is approximately 150 million years old.
This fossil group was discovered in April 2020 on a rocky hillside, where the dinosaur footprints are densely packed. Some footprints are circular, while others resemble animal claws.
These footprints belong to four species, including one newly identified type. They are herbivorous dinosaurs that could reach lengths of over 15 meters, and carnivorous dinosaurs that could measure between 4 to 5 meters.
Xing Lida, an Associate Professor at the Chinese University of Geosciences, stated that the rock layer containing these footprints dates back to the transitional period from the Jurassic to the Cretaceous.
