David Durrant, a 48-year-old resident of Kent, England, faced a stroke of luck amidst misfortune. While sitting outside his home repairing a car, he was bitten on the left shoulder by a venomous spider. Upon arriving at the hospital, doctors provided treatment; however, after two weeks, the bite had swollen to the size of a tennis ball.
At this point, doctors conducted an ultrasound and discovered that Mr. Durrant had a rare form of cancer. The venom from the spider bite caused the malignant tumor to swell rapidly and become apparent.
Following three months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, Mr. Durrant’s tumor completely disappeared, and he is now able to return to work as usual. According to spider experts in the UK, it is very rare for venomous spiders to bite humans, making Mr. Durrant’s escape from cancer due to a spider even more extraordinary.
