Due to heavy rain continuing since the night of May 9, combined with floodwaters from Lang Son, many houses in Luc Ngan District (Bac Giang) have been submerged in water.
In an interview with reporters, Mr. Nguyen The Thi – Vice Chairman of the Luc Ngan District People’s Committee in Bac Giang Province, stated that heavy rain has been occurring since the night of May 9 and has not yet shown any signs of stopping. Additionally, the large floods from Lang Son Province have caused many roads in several villages such as Cam Son, Tan Son, Phong Van, and Sa Ly to be submerged and cut off due to rising rivers and streams.
“As soon as we received the information, the Luc Ngan District People’s Committee directed relevant forces such as the military, police, and local militia to coordinate with local authorities and the community to move and inform households at high risk of flooding to relocate to safe areas, preventing unnecessary loss of life and property,” Mr. Thi said.
Hundreds of hectares of lychee and crops that are entering the harvest season have been inundated. Many power poles have been broken by the floodwaters, causing some villages to experience power outages.
Many schools have been flooded due to the heavy rain combined with the large floodwaters from Lang Son.
Authorities have advised the public not to stand near riverbanks, stream banks, flooded crossings, or landslide areas during heavy rain and strong winds.
For students and residents living in the district, local authorities strictly advise against crossing areas with swift currents. At the same time, authorities have placed warning signs in hazardous areas.
Many transportation projects and power grid systems have been damaged due to the prolonged heavy rain.
Authorities recommend not wading through rivers or streams when the water is flowing rapidly; if floodwaters enter homes, quickly turn off the power to avoid electric shock or fire; if the water rises too high, quickly find a way to move to a safe location.
Currently, there have been no reported casualties, and specific damage assessments regarding crops, houses, traffic infrastructure, and schools are still pending.
