The crowned swallow uses saliva and mud to build its nest high up, with each female typically laying only one egg in her small nest from late December to April of the following year.
The mother and father take turns incubating the egg until it hatches. The crowned swallow is a biologically dispersive species—meaning they will move to a different location to lay eggs in the next breeding season.
In terms of rarity, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classifies them as Least Concern due to their relatively stable population.
