The City of Caesars (The Wandering City) is a legendary land that exists in Patagonia, between present-day Chile and Argentina. According to historical documents, it was a city rich in gold and diamonds. The inhabitants of the city have been described in various ways, ranging from European types to giants. Despite reports of its existence circulating for 200 years, no trace of it has ever been found.
This legend is reminiscent of the El Dorado, the lost golden city of Colombia, the Lost City of Z, wealthy in the dense forests of Chile, and Paititi, the legendary final city of the Incas in the Andes of Peru.
According to historical documents, it was a city rich in gold and diamonds.
In 1515, Spanish explorer Juan de Solis and his crew were attacked by indigenous people while on an expedition near present-day Buenos Aires. Rumors spread that the survivors from de Solis’s group walked inland towards Patagonia, where they encountered a magnificent city inhabited by a race of white people.
The first reference to the city comes from Francisco Cesar, who explored Argentina in 1528 and discovered a wealthy city made of precious metals deep within the Andes Mountains, which he named Ciudad de los Césares (City of Caesars) .
Upon hearing rumors, Jesuit missionaries in Patagonia, believing that the City of Caesars was an island of salvation, joined the search.
In 1540, a shipwreck in the Strait of Magellan resulted in approximately 200 fatalities. A turning point in the story occurred in 1563 (23 years later) when two members of the lost crew returned to Chile and recounted their adventure and how they discovered a city filled with treasures belonging to the Incas. However, another story from the 17th century mentions Spanish colonizers who found a city they believed to be the lost City of Caesars.

More research in our century has been conducted by the Delphos Foundation, which reported that a rock formation found in the Rio Negro province of Argentina, known as “The Argentine Fortress”, is part of the City of Caesars.
According to this research, they believe that this fortress was built by the Knights Templar to protect the Holy Grail. Many researchers suggest that the Knights Templar traveled to America before Christopher Columbus, and a hypothesis mentions that the Holy Grail, along with the rest of the Templar treasure, arrived in America before the massacre of the Knights Templar.
Researchers from the Delphos Foundation support their hypothesis with maps, specifically a map published in 1865 by Juan Antonio Victor Martin de Moussy, a cartographer, who referred to the Fortress as “The Ancient Abandoned Fortress.” The Delphos organization has led several expeditions to the area from 1997 to 2006.
Whether the fortress is the key to discovering the mythical city remains unexplored; however, it is clear that the quest for untold wealth in remote lands has captivated the hopes and dreams of explorers for centuries.
