It is expected that the construction of Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas will be completed by the end of Q1 2022. Now, we have a comprehensive view of this mega factory ahead of its operational date, thanks to a drone video by Joe Tegtmeyer, a YouTuber who has been following the construction of Gigafactory since the groundbreaking.
The video showcases the immense size of the factory compared to the surrounding cars and trucks, which look like ants next to the vastness of Gigafactory. According to Joe, flying around the factory consumes 50% of the drone’s battery. Additionally, the number of vehicles parked outside indicates that many employees and workers are busy preparing for the opening day.
The type of drone used is the DJI Mavic Mini and Mavic Air 2, and Joe received permission from Tesla and CEO Elon Musk to create the video. You can watch the 4K version here.
Gigafactory Texas is optimized for electric vehicle production and is expected to earn the title of the highest automotive production factory in North America once it stabilizes operations, surpassing Tesla’s Fremont factory.
Tesla Fremont.
With an average output of 8,550 vehicles per week last year, Fremont surpassed Toyota’s plant in Georgetown, Kentucky (8,427 vehicles/week), BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina (8,343), and Ford’s truck plant in Dearborn, Michigan (5,564).
Giga Texas will also be responsible for manufacturing the electric pickup truck Cybertruck and the electric truck Semi, although a production start date has not yet been announced. In the latest financial meeting, Elon Musk stated that Tesla would not introduce any new models in 2022, adding that they “hope” to achieve this in 2023.
