A farmer in Israel has broken the record for the heaviest strawberry in the world, weighing approximately 24 times more than the average.
Ariel Chahi, who lives with his family in Israel, owns a large farming and livestock operation. Recently, Ariel Chahi was recognized by the Guinness World Records for growing the heaviest strawberry in the world.
This strawberry weighs 289 grams, with a diameter of 34cm.
The juicy red strawberry harvested by Ariel Chahi weighs about 289 grams and has a diameter of 34 cm, which is roughly 24 times larger than the average strawberry size.
The “monster” that Ariel Chahi grew is of the Ilan strawberry variety, the first large-sized strawberry variety developed by Dr. Nir Dai.
According to Dr. Nir Dai, the weather in late January and early February was particularly cold, causing strawberries planted during this period to develop 45 days slower from flowering compared to those planted in other seasons.
This allows the fruit to grow larger until it is fully ripe. This year, due to the cold weather, Ariel Chahi’s farm produced four unusually large strawberries, with this being the largest among them.
Previously, the record for the heaviest strawberry in the world was 250 grams, held by Japanese farmer Koji Nakao in Fukuoka in 2015. That strawberry was nearly 8 cm tall, about 12 cm long, with a circumference of 25-30 cm. The giant strawberry grown by Nakao was of the Japanese variety named Amaou.
