Astronomers have just released images of a massive black hole eruption, which is 16 times larger than the Moon and located 12 million light-years away from Earth.
A large amount of material being expelled from a black hole.
The images were captured by the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) telescope in Australia, showing a significant amount of material being expelled from a supermassive black hole at the center of the Centaurus A galaxy.
Centaurus A is a giant galaxy located in the Centaurus constellation and is one of the closest radio galaxies to Earth. According to scientists, this supermassive black hole has emitted streams of energy and X-rays.
As the black hole consumes gas, it ejects material at speeds close to the speed of light. From Earth, the black hole eruption in Centaurus A spans 8 degrees across the sky, equivalent to the length of 16 full Moons lined up side by side.
