Sri Lankan authorities showcased the world’s largest natural blue sapphire weighing 310 kg on December 12.
According to Reuters, the sapphire was discovered in a gem mine approximately three months ago and has since been nicknamed “The Queen of Asia.”
It is displayed at the home of one of the gem mine owners in Horana.
Local gem researchers have examined the sapphire and stated that it is one of the rarest gemstones in the world due to its weight exceeding 310 kg. International organizations have yet to certify this gemstone.
It is exhibited at the home of one of the gem mine owners in Horana, located about 65 km south of the capital Colombo. Monks recited prayers in front of the gigantic sapphire before it was put on display.

The stone was found in the Ratnapura area, known for its rich gemstone deposits, where locals previously discovered the largest star sapphire cluster in the world. Ratnapura is known as the “gem capital” of this South Asian country, which exports top-quality jade and gemstones.
Last year, Sri Lanka earned approximately 500 million USD from the export of gemstones, diamonds, and other jewelry, according to data from the country’s gem and jewelry industry agency.
