When Wolfgang “the overweight dog” was rescued from a shelter in Phoenix, Arizona, Erin McManis – who works at an animal welfare fund, helped the dog regain a “slimmer” appearance through a diet and exercise. After 2 years, Wolfgang has reduced his weight from over 40 kg to 14.5 kg.
Since the images of his plump figure were shared, Wolfgang quickly became a social media star, even facing “body shaming” at times when compared to pigs. However, Wolfgang has now completely transformed thanks to his successful weight loss.
It is known that the couple McManis and Chad Schatz began fostering Wolfgang in May 2019 from the Arizona Beagle Rescue organization in Arizona, USA. At that time, Wolfgang was already a chubby dog. The couple had no information about Wolfgang’s previous owner or why the dog was so overweight, but they had extensive experience in adopting dogs and helping them lose weight.
The amazing transformation of Wolfgang.
The veterinarian diagnosed Wolfgang with thyroid disease and prescribed a diet limiting the dog to 600 calories per day. McManis took charge of preparing meals for Wolfgang with lean chicken and fresh vegetables. Despite having to adhere to a strict diet, the dog remained obedient and did not demand extra food between meals. McManis believes that the vegetables helped the dog feel fuller for longer.
