The mountain lion (Puma concolor) is a large cat native to the Americas, with a range that extends from the Yukon in Canada to the Strait of Magellan in the southern part of the continent.
Mountain lions weigh about 70 kg and can run at speeds of 50 km/h. They typically hunt large mammals such as deer but will also eat beavers, porcupines, and rodents if hungry. These solitary hunters specialize in ambushing their prey, usually from behind, and kill by biting the neck to break the prey’s spine.
