This man caught a “sea monster” with a terrifying wide mouth.
In a river located in central Oklahoma, USA, a man crawled into a small drainage pipe near the river. The pipe was very narrow and cramped, making it quite difficult for him to get inside.
This man crawled into a drainage pipe to catch a catfish.
Just a moment later, he emerged with a gigantic creature that had its mouth wide open, along with whiskers beneath its chin. It turned out that this man crawled into the drainage pipe to catch catfish (Scientific name: Siluriformes).
This species of fish can grow to weigh up to 300 kg, as seen in the case of the giant catfish of Lake Biwa (scientific name: Silurus biwaensis). The man took a huge risk by entering the tilted drainage pipe, as he could have drowned due to the slippery surface inside.
The method of catching fish by hand is also known as Noodling, which is considered an adventurous game in the southern United States. The fishermen use their bare hands as bait to catch giant catfish (a type of catfish).
The fish mistake the fisherman’s hand for prey and bite down hard. The fisherman then uses their strength to pull the fish out of the water by grabbing its wide mouth or inserting fingers into its gills or respiratory cavity; the person who catches the largest fish wins!
This “sport” has even been featured on major television channels like Discovery and Animal Planet (including series like Catfishin’ Kings, Hillbilly Handfishin, and Top Hooker).
