The video opens with a scene of a young African elephant trying every possible way to drive away a herd of buffalo. It flaps its ears, stomps its feet, and uses its trunk to lift as a way to threaten its opponents.
However, the herd of buffalo shows no signs of fear. They stand their ground and stare defiantly at the elephant.
After a moment, the elephant takes an unexpected action. It approaches and uses its front foot to stomp on the head of a buffalo that is lying in the grass.
However, its somewhat timid action makes the stomp lack any real power. The buffalo suffers no injury from the attack.
Realizing it has gone too far with its antics, the elephant turns and runs away to avoid escalating the tension.
Nevertheless, this action by the elephant serves as a form of “provocation,” prompting the resting buffalo to spring up and charge.
It uses its sharp horns to jab at the elephant’s rear as a warning, causing the elephant to collapse from the pain.
After this encounter, the young elephant surely learned a valuable lesson: do not provoke buffalo when they are serious.
Buffalo can become extremely aggressive if provoked.
With an adult weight ranging from 500 kg to 1 ton, African buffalo (also known as Cape buffalo) is likened to a sturdy tank capable of tossing any enemy with its sharp horns.
Although they are both classified as buffalo, African buffalo are not closely related to domestic cattle or bison. Due to their unpredictable temperament, African buffalo are very dangerous to humans. They are estimated to have charged and killed over 200 people each year.
In the wild, African buffalo are considered a very ferocious and aggressive species, capable of running at speeds of 50-60 km/h and delivering devastating charges.
The horns of mature buffalo are a defining characteristic of the species. Not only are they sharp, but they also form a bony shield on the buffalo’s head, providing extra protection when facing predators.
Aside from humans, African buffalo have very few natural “enemies.” In most cases, they are ready to engage and kill any opponent that stands in their way.
