The video shows two lionesses stealthily approaching a herd of antelope without being detected. They cleverly positioned themselves to create a “pincer movement”, ensuring that the antelope had no escape route.

When the moment was right, the lions suddenly accelerated towards their prey. It seemed like this would be an easy hunt for the lions, but unexpectedly, an accident occurred.

Typically, a lion’s hunt does not take long and is quite powerful. Usually, this task is undertaken by the lionesses in the pride.

This is because lionesses are lighter, which means they can accelerate over short distances much better than male lions. Reports indicate that lions can reach speeds of over 80 km/h, although they can only maintain this speed for a short time.

When hunting, lions are considered to be quite “humane”, as they usually kill their prey by biting the neck before eating. This method differs from some other hunting species like hyenas, leopards, or wild dogs, which often start eating their prey regardless of whether it is alive or dead.

A noticeable weakness of lions when hunting is their lack of endurance during prolonged chases. Therefore, all wise lions know to close the distance to their prey as much as possible before delivering the final blow.

To achieve this, they often take advantage of elements that reduce their visibility to the enemy, such as hiding behind bushes, mounds, or hunting at night.

However, even when they have approached and controlled their prey, lions sometimes encounter difficulties when the prey retaliates. Lions can also become easily discouraged if they think their prey has seen them while they are lying in wait.
