What is this man doing on the high-voltage power line?
The video below captures a scene of a man sitting on the leg of a helicopter in flight, being transported to a high-voltage power line. He then uses a metal rod to place near the cable, causing electric sparks to fly and making a sound that sends chills down anyone’s spine.
The helicopter remains stationary while the man performs his task, after which he installs a wheeled device to move along the power line. The helicopter then departs, leaving the man dangling alone on the high-voltage line.
What is this man doing?
Many people might wonder what this man is doing, as this is a job not easily witnessed by everyone. In fact, this man works in high-voltage power line quality inspection – one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.
According to the individual, to perform this hazardous job, one must have experience and knowledge about electricity to ensure safety while working. First, you must start as a trainee linesman.

Next, you must hold an electrical engineering degree, which is just a prerequisite because once you prove your capabilities, you will need to pass through an extremely rigorous and challenging training program to become a high-voltage power line quality inspector.
In the laboratory, you will experience high-voltage electricity flowing around you and learn how to distinguish between what feels “right” and “wrong” to detect anomalies in the electrical flow.
Even after completing the rigorous training, you will continue to undergo tests until you are competent enough to teach the next generations. Therefore, doing this dangerous job is truly not easy at all!
