The mysterious events surrounding the haunted house in Harrisville have shocked the media in the United States for a long time, and to this day, no answers have been found.
Supernatural phenomena is a term used to describe things that go beyond nature, which cannot be explained by natural laws, such as religious mysteries, charms, curses, prophecies, and the spirit world.

Although not recognized by science, belief in supernatural powers has persisted throughout many cultures in human history.
Among the evidence of the supernatural, one cannot overlook the haunted houses that have been recorded and still exist today, causing people to “shudder” when mentioned.
In this article, we will explore one of the most famous haunted houses in American history. This is the very house that inspired filmmakers to create the movie The Conjuring, released in 2013.

In the film, a character states: “Something terrible is happening in my house.” Although this plot point is fictional, the entire story is based on real events that occurred in a house in Harrisville, Rhode Island.
This house consists of 14 rooms and a large farm belonging to a family that has lived there for eight generations. During this time, they endured many strange tragedies, including the deaths of children due to suicide, drowning, or even murder.
The most horrific case that occurred in this house is believed to have been perpetrated by a woman named Bathsheba Sherman. Locals believe that Sherman was a witch and killed a child by stabbing a needle into his brain. After her death, Sherman and other spirits are said to be trapped around the house.
Portrayed in the film “The Conjuring”, the Perron family moved into the house in 1971 and immediately began to experience strange occurrences.

Carolyn Perron, the oldest woman in the house, began to notice objects disappearing one by one, and piles of dirt suddenly appeared on the floor after she cleaned.
Things did not stop there. Every morning at 5:15, the house would be filled with the stench of decay and emit unexplained noises.
Once, Carolyn Perron felt a sharp pain in her leg and discovered a wound resembling a needle prick, even though there were no such items in the house. Terrified, she sought help from psychics, exorcists, and shamans, but they all shook their heads and left.
As depicted in “The Conjuring,” the family eventually received help from psychic couple Ed and Lorraine Warren – one a demographer and the other a clairvoyant.
This couple visited the house multiple times to investigate and conduct a séance. During this séance, Carolyn was reportedly possessed, began speaking in a strange language, and even levitated.
The Warrens in real life also confirmed that there were spirits in the house, and they could not completely exorcise them.

“We have a respect for the spirits. We have lived with them. This is their home,” Andrea Perron, one of the family members, stated.
Andrea also confirmed that most of what happened in the film did occur, and some parts were even toned down.
When the Perron family left the house in 1980, another family immediately moved in. They also reported experiencing supernatural and strange phenomena.
Specifically, they heard loud banging sounds in the walls and on the ceiling. The family’s carpets were continuously stained, and many scratch marks appeared throughout the house.
“We often had to jump up in fear,” a family member reported.
