Authorities are investigating the cause after numerous residents in New Hampshire and Massachusetts reported hearing a loud explosion and feeling vibrations.
According to the New York Times, residents in New Hampshire and Massachusetts reported that they heard a loud noise resembling an explosion and felt as if a significant impact occurred on October 10. Many believed there had been an earthquake.
However, an official from the National Earthquake Information Center, part of the United States Geological Survey, stated that there was no evidence of an earthquake occurring in the New England region of the northeastern United States in the past week.
Some local residents even wondered if the explosion was caused by a meteor or an aircraft.

Dan Brian, a resident of New Hampshire, told the Times: “The loud explosion shook our entire house. The blast came with a loud noise. It was very strange.”
Dan MacDonald, the fire chief of New Boston, New Hampshire, mentioned that he heard the explosion and felt “a slight vibration.”
Shortly after, his fire department received numerous calls about the explosion.
Geophysicist Jessica Turner told the Times that the lack of recorded earthquakes in the area at the time of the incident does not rule out the possibility of a minor earthquake occurring, which is relatively common in New Hampshire.
On August 22, a 1.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the southwestern part of the state.
On social media, many discussions and speculations arose about the explosion on October 10. Paul Raymond, from the New Hampshire safety agency, told the Times that over 400 people discussed the mysterious explosion on volcanodiscovery.com – a platform where users can report seismic activity.
