A black and tan coonhound belonging to a woman from Oregon has set a Guinness World Record for having ears longer than 30 cm.
Lou, the 3-year-old coonhound owned by Paige Olsen, has officially made it into the Guinness World Records for having the longest ears on a living dog—approximately 34 cm.
Paige, a veterinary technician from Oregon, mentioned that she always knew her dog’s ears were “excessively long.” However, she only officially measured them during her time at home due to the pandemic.
Lou the dog holds the Guinness World Record for having ears longer than 30 cm.
She said: “All black and tan coonhounds have beautiful long ears; some just happen to be longer than others. Lou is one such case.”
Paige confirmed that Lou’s unusually long ears have not led to any medical complications. In fact, they have made Lou a standout at dog shows and competitions.
Paige remarked: “Anyone who sees Lou wants to touch her long ears. She is also very friendly.”
She has even received affection from neighbors and many people around her. Since being awarded the Guinness World Record, Lou’s “fame” has spread further in the animal-loving community.
Paige Olsen also hopes that Lou’s victory will inspire animal lovers to “embrace the uniqueness of their pets and always love and care for them.”
Previously, a dog named Norman set a record for the longest distance traveled on a bicycle and scooter in the dog world—30 meters.
With the training capabilities of professional circus performers, it’s not surprising for animals to ride bicycles and zoom around. However, this dog, Norman, has still been recognized in the Guinness Book for his skilled riding and covering a distance longer than any other dog.
Norman achieved the distance of 30 meters on a scooter in just 20.77 seconds. A year later, he took on a similar challenge with a bicycle, completing the task in only 55.41 seconds.
Norman’s owner shared: “Norman is extremely smart, and he’s like a child. When he sees others doing something, he wants to learn and imitate it.”
