This mysterious artifact is known as the Wedge of Aiud, and it may date back an astonishing 250,000 years.
This discovery has sparked significant interest among archaeologists and UFO enthusiasts worldwide, with some claiming it serves as evidence of extraterrestrial civilization on Earth. However, not everyone agrees with this perspective. Some argue that the object may have formed naturally or could be a remnant of ancient human civilization.
So, what is the Wedge of Aiud?
In 1973, a group of construction workers working along the Mureș River near the town of Aiud, Romania, discovered three objects buried 10 meters underground. Due to the unusual and ancient appearance of the excavated items, archaeologists were invited to the site. (Photo: CNN).
In 1973, while a local construction crew was working on a foundation by the Mureș River near Aiud, Romania, they inadvertently unearthed three remarkable items. These artifacts included a set of Stone Age axes, two bone axe handles, and a wedge-shaped axe head.
Upon discovering these items, the workers quickly reported this peculiar find to their developer, who subsequently contacted the Romanian Antiquities Agency. Shortly thereafter, a team of archaeologists was dispatched to the Mureș River site to conduct a thorough investigation.
After careful observation and exploration, these archaeologists initially determined that the two axe handles could be fossils of some large mammal, most likely belonging to the woolly mammoth that went extinct around 12,000 years ago. The wedge-shaped axe head had a clear hole at its top, likely indicating it was a hunting tool crafted by ancient humans. Archaeologists speculated that the Homo sapiens who made this tool may have inhabited the area around 12,000 years ago. The preliminary conclusion was that this ancient artifact set was likely used by Homo sapiens in the area to hunt woolly mammoths.
According to testing results, the object is composed of 12 metals, with approximately 90% being aluminum, dating back 250,000 years. This assessment was later confirmed by a laboratory in Lausanne, Sweden. (Photo: Zhihu).
Subsequently, the collection of “stone axes” and soil samples collected from the site were sent to the Cluj Research Institute in Romania for further study. Remarkably, several astonishing research findings were published in succession. Test reports aligned with the archaeologists’ preliminary assessment, confirming that the two fossils known as “axe handles” were indeed identified as mammoth bone fossils after testing.
Surprisingly, the stratigraphy from which these fossils were excavated was not dated to 12,000 years ago, as initially estimated by the archaeologist, but rather to strata dating back 250,000 years!
This discovery seems unbelievable as Homo sapiens had not yet emerged 250,000 years ago. Even more shocking is the research report on the “stone axe.” According to the report, the “axe,” measuring 20.5 cm long, 12.5 cm wide, 6.8 cm high, and weighing 2.3 kg, was actually made of an aluminum alloy! This aluminum alloy contains 89% aluminum, 6.2% copper, 2.85% silicon, 1.81% zinc, and trace metals.
This is concerning because, according to current human understanding, aluminum is a metal that cannot naturally occur in nature. In fact, humans first extracted metallic aluminum from aluminum ore in 1825. This discovery seemingly directs attention toward prehistoric civilizations and the possibility of extraterrestrial beings, leading Romania to classify related documents and research reports as top secret and seal them.
The unusual aluminum object has recently sparked much debate as experts assess its age to be at least 250,000 years, while humans only began producing metallic aluminum about 200 years ago. (Photo: Mirror).
It wasn’t until 1989, following the fall of the Romanian regime, that the mystery of the Wedge of Aiud was revisited. UFO enthusiasts believe it is a remnant of a UFO that landed on Earth 250,000 years ago. They argue that the holes on both sides and the back of the artifact indicate it was part of a device, possibly a UFO, but experts argue that this is entirely incorrect. They point out that while aluminum is a lightweight metal, it has a low melting point and is not an ideal material for spacecraft—aluminum products would quickly melt in the high-temperature friction of the atmosphere.
Additionally, experts took the teeth from an excavator bucket, which are structurally very similar to the wedge, to demonstrate that the wedge is merely an excavator tooth. They believe the wedge may have been accidentally dropped by someone, leading to the misunderstanding. However, Florian, a researcher in Romania, under tremendous public pressure, decided to send the wedge to a research institute in Lausanne, Switzerland, hoping to obtain more neutral research results about the wedge.
Even if dated at least 400 years, the object still predates the time when humans first became acquainted with aluminum by 200 years. (Photo: ZME).
After a thorough investigation, researchers discovered a detail that had long been overlooked: the unusually thick layer of aluminum oxide on the surface of the wedge. Aluminum is a “man-made metal” with oxidation and rust resistance. However, the oxide layer on the surface of this wedge is unusually thick.
Subsequently, the testing results from the research institute in Lausanne, Switzerland, aligned with the earlier conclusions of the Romanian research team, confirming the metallic composition of this wedge-shaped artifact.
An even more significant conclusion is that through oxidation process analysis, they discovered that the minimum existence time of the wedge is 400 years and the maximum is 80,000 years. Even if we use the shortest duration of 400 years, this result contradicts previous speculations made by many experts. The first aluminum piece was only melted down about 200 years ago, and aluminum as a metal was not industrially produced until the late 20th century. Clearly, this is not a recorded artifact of human creation.
Despite numerous stories surrounding the Wedge of Aiud, its true origin remains undisclosed. This artifact is currently housed at the History Museum in Cluj-Napoca, accompanied by a sign stating “Origin still unclear.” This ancient object serves as a reminder that the history of Earth may be far more complex and mysterious than we can imagine. Perhaps, with the continuous advancement of science and technology, one day we will be able to illuminate the truth behind this ancient mystery, unveil the veil of history, and learn more about the secrets of Earth and humanity.
