With the rapid development of high-speed rail, high-speed trains have become an essential mode of transportation for the majority of the Chinese population.
Currently, the country is making efforts to promote eco-friendly travel using this convenient transportation option.

Mr. Feng Jianghua, the chief scientist at China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) and chief engineer at Zhuzhou Institute Co. Ltd., stated that in the near future, China will implement a permanent magnet synchronous traction system developed independently for high-speed trains, which will operate at higher speeds while being more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
According to Mr. Feng Jianghua, the permanent magnet synchronous traction system is the flagship product of the next-generation traction system for rail transport. Compared to traditional asynchronous motor traction systems, the permanent magnet synchronous system is smaller and lighter, offering significantly better energy efficiency with savings of up to 30%.
Since 2003, Zhuzhou Institute Co. Ltd. has been at the forefront of researching the permanent magnet synchronous traction system in the rail transport sector. In 2015, China’s first high-speed train equipped with a permanent magnet traction system officially began operation.
Chief Engineer Feng Jianghua mentioned that China is currently intensifying research and development of even higher-speed trains, and the permanent magnet synchronous traction system is undergoing load testing. After trial operations and data accumulation, this initiative will further boost smart, green transportation technology, helping China achieve a leading global position in high-speed train traction technology.
