Have you ever wondered why certain people seem so beautiful and attractive, whether online or in real life?
In reality, there are no universal standards determining who is attractive. Many even believe that “beauty lies in the eye of the beholder”; if we have feelings for someone, we are likely to see them as perfect.
However, research shows that standards of attractiveness, such as body shape and facial proportions, are not random. Over time, particular characteristics have become widely regarded as attractive and appealing in individuals.
1. Pupil Size
Pupil size changes in response to emotions and tends to dilate when we are happy. Some studies suggest that subconsciously, we find people with larger pupils more attractive because it indicates they are interested in us. In the past, Italian women intentionally dilated their pupils using extracts from the belladonna plant to appear more attractive to the opposite sex.
2. Waist-to-Hip Ratio
The waist-to-hip ratio is considered one of the most important features regarding a woman’s appearance. Research indicates that a lower waist-to-hip ratio increases a woman’s attractiveness to men.
3. Symmetrical Face
Researchers have confirmed that we find symmetrical faces more attractive than asymmetrical ones because our visual receptors can process them much more easily. Another reason for the preference for symmetrical faces is biological; we subconsciously associate symmetrical features with good genes.
4. Mainstream Appearance
As one study suggests, we tend to prefer a more ordinary or mainstream appearance over unique and distinctive looks. This could be interpreted in various ways: either we associate it with biological advantages like good genes, or our brains simply prefer familiar, typical faces.
5. Healthy Eating Habits
A small study indicates that dietary preferences can indeed make men more attractive to women. Specifically, those who eat healthily are considered much more appealing than those who do not. Furthermore, the scent of men who consume fruits and vegetables is often regarded as more attractive than that of those who primarily eat starchy foods.
6. Deep Voice
Studies show that voice is one of the factors women often use to evaluate men. They tend to perceive men with deep voices as more mature, calm, and attractive compared to those with higher-pitched voices.
7. Scent
A woman’s scent can significantly influence her attractiveness to men. Research shows that women are more appealing to men during periods of heightened hormone levels, which signal their reproductive capability.
