Witnessing a cobra regurgitating six eggs left many people astonished. This incredible sight was recorded at Similipal National Park, Odisha, India.
Swallowing too many eggs at once caused the cobra to regurgitate.
In the clip, a cobra is “laying eggs” in broad daylight. Strangely, this cobra is expelling eggs through its mouth. After a period of writhing, each egg is expelled from the snake’s mouth.
In reality, this is not the birthing process of a cobra as this behavior is similar to that of most other snake species. The act of continuously regurgitating up to six eggs is a consequence of this species’ gluttonous nature, specifically the cobra featured in the clip.
Typically, they would swallow a few eggs, using their own bodies to crush and absorb the nutrients inside, and then regurgitate the shells because their stomachs cannot digest them. However, swallowing too many eggs at once caused the cobra to be unable to handle it and to regurgitate.
Despite this, the snake managed to retain at least one egg in its body to ensure it remains sufficiently nourished for a short period.
The reason a cobra can swallow eggs larger than its own head is due to the highly flexible structure of its jaw, which allows them to consume prey that is many times larger.
